Igniyte’s office Christmas party research covered by HR Magazine

30 November 2015 · Igniyte

Igniyte’s research into how employees behave at their office Christmas parties has been featured in HR Magazine.

The research looks into the past behaviour at office Christmas parties and how employees intended to behave that year. When the festive party season was just around the corner that year, take a look at how some UK workers were preparing:

  • 1 in 5 expect to do or say something embarrassing
  • 1 in 10 are planning to tell a fellow colleague that they like them
  • 15% are going to change their Facebook settings before their work Christmas party so that they have to approve a ‘tag’ in a status or picture
  • 1 in 4 are going to “drink less” to avoid embarrassing themselves

How employees behave at an office Christmas party can often present a HR challenge – whilst the event will no doubt be held outside of work hours, do work policies still apply? Whilst the focus is celebrating the festive season and having a well-earned break; it’s still advisable to set some guidelines for employees for how they’re expected to behave.

In the research, 8% of property employees admitted to being fired following their behaviour at the office Christmas party – you can’t always control the behaviour of your staff but you can guide them as to how they’re expected to act and the consequences of inappropriate behaviour.
